WASO's first concert in 2015 was at 7.30 pm on 13 & 14 March at Perth Concert Hall. I bought tickets for the Saturday concert and attended with my husband. The venue for the pre-concert talk was changed to inside the Wardle room which provided with a greater seating capacity. The pre-concert talk given by Marilyn Phillips was quite interesting and helpful but it was occasionally disturbed by noise coming from the bar right next to where we were sitting. |
The concert was amazing as I expected- Sarah Chang played Bruch's violin concerto no.1 in G minor ever so passionately and impeccably. It was a good experience for me as I'm more into piano concertos than violin concertos (well, piano is my instrument so I guess it is quite natural :D). I followed every movement Sarah made. I almost could believe that I was just a short distance away from this world famous violinist.
In the post-concert talk, Alan Tyrell had an interview with Sarah Chang and Maestro Asher Fisch. Listening to how Sarah began to play the violin, people were in astonishment- she was given her first ever violin, 1/16 small like the one we put on a Christmas tree, at the age of 4 and when she was 5 and a half, she played Bruch's first violin concerto in an audition for the Juilliard, the same concerto she played that night! No doubt that she was a child music prodigy.
Something that I wouldn't forget happened after the post-concert talk. A fan wanted to take a picture with her, then Sarah said 'yes'. I don't think she knew what that 'yes' could bring about- many of her fans queued for photos and autographs and I couldn't exactly see the end of it. Well, I was one of them, too, and she was very kind and treated every single fan of hers with respect and a smile.
It was a happy night for me and I'm sure it was for all her fans who came that night, too.
